Liverpool reopened the Premier League title race this afternoon with a 4-1 demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford. The result rounds off a perfect week for the Reds which saw them put four past Real Madrid in the Champions League.
United went ahead on 22 minutes thanks to a Ronaldo penalty and it looked as if it would be business as usual for Sir Alex Ferguson's side, but Fernando Torres was on hand to equalize for Liverpool after Nemanja Vidic had made an uncharacteristic mistake at the back.
Things got even better for Rafa Benitez's men when Patrice Evra felled Gerrard in the box just before half time. The Liverpool skipper kept his composure to slot home the resulting spot kick. All hopes of a United comeback were scuppered on 74 minutes when Vidic capped off a terrible game with a straight red card for a professional foul on Gerrard.
Fábio Aurélio scored from the resulting free-kick before Andrea Dossena put the icing on the cake with Liverpool's fourth in injury time.
