Liverpool beat Preston 2-0 in the FA Cup
Liverpool ended a difficult week on a positive note with a 2-0 win over Preston in the FA Cup. Albert Riera put the Reds ahead in the first half before Fernando Torres made sure of the win in injury time.
While Liverpool dominated the match they were guilty of a number of glaring misses in both halves with Robbie Keane and Daniel Agger the primary culprits. Former Anfield striker Neil Mellor went close to earning Preston a replay before Torres' late strike.
Sean St Ledger had the ball in the net on 64 minutes, but his effort was ruled out for a Jon Parkin foul on Jamie Carragher despite replays suggesting that Preston were unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty for a clear foul by the Liverpool defender.
