Fernando Torres scored a late winner to keep Liverpool's title dreams alive as the Reds ran out 3-2 winners over Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
David Nugent had opened the scoring for Pompey after some good build up play from former Reds striker Peter Crouch. Liverpool were without injured captain Steven Gerrard and Torres started on the bench and it showed as they struggled to break Tony Adams' side down.
Fabio Aurelio and Dirk Kuyt both got on the score sheet for Liverpool after Hermann Hreidarsson had put Pompey back into the lead. Just when it looked as Rafa Benitez's side were again going to drop points, Torres came up with yet another vital goal to send Liverpool top of the Premier League.
