Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-0 at Anfield to keep their title hopes alive. Fernando Torres was the hero on the day scoring a late brace to seal a vital three points.
Despite the positive result Liverpool struggled to break down a Chelsea side that looked intent on playing for a point. Rafa Benitez again chose to exclude £20m striker Robbie Keane from the match day squad calling into question the Republic of Ireland captain's Anfield future.
The game was shrouded in controversy when Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard was sent off for a tackle on old foe Xabi Alonso. Liverpool took control of the middle of the park and finally made the breakthrough through Spanish striker Torres to move just two points behind Manchester United.
