Liverpool 2 Bolton 1

Liverpool beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 at Anfield yesterday making it four wins out of their last six league matches. The result leaves them just one point behind fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur.

But the inevitable talk of the Reds 'turning a corner' was put on hold after one of the team's most disjointed performances of the season. Liverpool failed to control the game and their passing and linkup play was poor.

Korean winger Chung-Yong Lee came close to giving Bolton the lead on 24-minutes when he ran straight through the home defence before rounding Pepe Reina only to see his goal bound shot cleared off the line by Sotirios Kyrgiakos.

However, it was Liverpool who took the lead eight-minutes before half time when Dirk Kuyt got on the end of an Alberto Aquilani header to bundle the ball into the Bolton net.

The home side failed to build on their lead and when David Ngog missed a brilliant chance to give the home side a 2-0 it looked as if Liverpool were set to throw away points once again.

Emiliano Insúa, however, eased the tension amongst the Anfield faithful when his speculative effort deflected off Kevin Davies and past the wrong footed Jussi Jaaskelainen to secure all three points.
