Liverpool 2 Birmingham 2

Liverpool dropped two points at home against Birmingham in a dramatic 2-2 draw at Anfield earlier this evening. The result will heap further pressure on Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.

David Ngog gave Liverpool the lead on 12 minutes when he smashed a brilliant left-footed volley past Joe Hart in the Birmingham goal. The Reds looked to be in control when Christian Benitez equalized for the Blues on 25 minutes with a close range effort after some comical defending by Glen Johnson and Martin Skrtel.

Things got even worse for Liverpool in first half injury team when they conceded again. Cameron Jerome picked up the ball 30 yards out and unleashed an unstoppable shot past Pepe Reina.

With his team facing down the barrel of yet another defeat Rafa Benitez decided to call for the cavalry bringing Steven Gerrard on from the bench despite the fact that the England midfielder was not fit to start the match.

Liverpool's talismanic captain lifted the tempo and went close to pulling the home side level when his close range header come back off the post. But Gerrard got on the score sheet just minutes later from the penalty spot after Ngog fooled the referee with a blatant dive in the box.

The Reds pushed for a winner late on with Benitez finally giving £20m Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani his Premier League debut, but Birmingham held on for a well deserved point.
