Lewis Hamilton in pole position for Chinese Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton will start the Chinese Grand Prix in pole position after a brilliant performance in qualifying. The 23-year-old has come under attack this week for his aggressive driving style but gave the best possible answer to his critics with a best lap time of one minute and 36.303 seconds.
It won't, however, be an easy race for the McClaren driver; the Ferrari duo of Kimi Raikkonen and title rival Felipe Massa qualified in second and third place respectively. Hamilton's McClaren team-mate team-mate Heikki Kovalainen will start in fifth place on the grid.
Robert Kubica's chances of challenging for the title look to have been dashed after the BMW Sauber driver qualified outside of the top ten. His only hope is for Hamilton and Massa to retire early from the race and as the last few weeks have shown anything can happen when the pressure is on.
