Kolo Toure to join Manchester City for £14m

Manchester City are reported to be close to agreeing a deal to bring Arsenal's Kolo Toure to Eastlands for a fee of around £14m. The Ivory Coast international would be City's first defensive signing of the summer after the club's failed bid to sign John Terry from Chelsea.

Toure has been a key player for the Gunners over the last seven seasons but he endured a difficult season at the Emirates last year when his form suffered after a fallout with his defensive partner Wiliam Gallas. Arsene Wenger already has a ready made replacement for the 28-year-old in the shape of Thomas Vermaelen who signed from Ajax earlier this summer and is said to be ready to cash in on City's offer.

City are also still in the hunt for Everton and England defender Joleon Lescott after having a £15m bid turned down last week. The Premier League's big spenders are hoping that the former Wolves player will push for a transfer but the Toffees are resolute that the 26-year-old is not for sale.

Mark Hughes is hoping to pair Lescott and Toure at the heart of City's defence as he looks to strengthen the club's rearguard ahead of the upcoming season.
