Keegan gives Newcastle owner Ashley an ultimatum
Kevin Keegan has issued an ultimatum to Newcastle owner Mike Ashley: get rid of Dennis Wise or fire me. The Newcastle manager has made it clear that he wants full control of the club's transfer activity and is believed to have the backing of senior players.
Yesterday it was widely reported that Ashley had sacked Keegan following a falling out between the Newcastle manager and Director of Football Wise. The board's attempt to sell Michael Owen and Joey Barton last week, without Keegan's approval, is believed to have brought matters to a head.
Keegan says that he won't resign from his post, but if Ashley wants to get rid of the former Liverpool striker he'll have to hand over £8m in compensation. It's clear from the protests by the Toon army, calling for Ashley and Wise to go, that Keegan has the full support of the fans. The ball is now firmly in Ashley's court.
