Keane linked with move to Aston Villa

Spurs striker Robbie Keane has been linked with a shock transfer to Aston Villa. The Ireland striker rejoined the London club back in January after an unsuccessful spell at Liverpool but now faces a competition for places following the arrival of Peter Crouch earlier this week from Portsmouth for £9m.

The Birmingham Mail claims that Keane is just one of a list of Spurs player being targeted by Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill including David Bentley, Tom Huddlestone and Jermain Jenas.

Harry Redknapp is widely expected to pair Crouch with Jermain Defoe next season just as he did at Portsmouth which could put Keane's place in the Spurs starting XI under threat. Tottenham also have Roman Pavlyuchenko and Darren Bent on the books so competition will be fierce next season at White Hart Lane.

Keane, however, hailed the arrival of Crouch and said that he is looking forward to playing alongside the England international next season: "I am looking forward to playing with him. He is a tremendous player and he is a good addition to a good squad that we already have."

"As a striker it is always good to be kept on your toes and we now have four good strikers and it is good to have that competition as it now means we all have to perform otherwise someone else is going to come in."
