Kaka joins Real Madrid for £56m

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Brazilian playmaker Kaka on a six-year contract. According to reports in the Spanish press the La Liga club has paid Milan a fee of £56m for the 27-year-old.

Kaka won't be unveiled as a Real Madrid player until the end of the month following Brazil's participation in the Confederations Cup in South Africa. The attacking midfielder spoke about his decision to sign up to Madrid president Florentino Perez's vision for the future.

"He [Perez]'s trying to buy other players, and I think he can make a very offensive team. That's behind my decision to go to this team," Kaka told reporters at a press conference. "I hope to be part of this new project and help to win titles, both European and Spanish."

The Brazil international also underlined that he needed a new challenge at this point in his career: "Everything I've always done for Milan has been by mutual agreement, from the moment I arrived until my departure today. I'm leaving by the front door. I've won everything that I wanted as a player and this is a new motivation for me."

Florentino Perez has claimed that Kaka is just the first of a long list of high profile players that Real Madrid will bring to the Bernabeu this summer with Xavi Alonso and Cristiano Ronaldo also on the club's radar.
