Jenson Button wins Formula One world title

Jenson Button won his first ever Formula One driver's championship for Brawn GP at the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlargos yesterday afternoon. The English driver finished fifth to win the title in the penultimate race of the F1 season.

"It's really amazing," Button told reporters afterward. "That was just such an awesome race - I deserve the title after that race! 21 years ago I jumped in a car and I loved winning. I never expected to be world champion in Formula One but I've done it today."

The result caps off a remarkable season for Brawn GP which also secured the constructor's title in its first season in Formula One while the team's second driver, Rubens Barrichello, pushed Button all of the way in the driver's championship.

Barichello started on pole position but slipped back to eight following a number of disastrous pit stops and a late puncture. Red Bull's Mark Weber took the chequered flag but the day belonged to Button who finally got the reward that he deserved for a brilliant season.
