Jens Lehmann suspended for attending Oktoberfest

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has been dropped from the first-team squad at his current club Stuttgart after attending Oktoberfest in Munich at the weekend.

The 39-year-old former German international was spotted at the beer festival – which he had not been granted permission to attend - just hours after his howler had helped Cologne beat Stuttgart 2-0 in the Bundesliga.

Stuttgart coach Markus Babbel spoke about the decision to suspend Lehmann: 'Horst Heldt (Director of sport) and I will talk with Jens about this on Thursday and then we will see where to go.' The former Gunner has apologized for breaking club rules but claims that his motives for attending the beer festival were good.

'The visit to the Wiesn (Oktoberfest) was part of a charity event and it had been planned for a long time,' he told reporters. 'However, it was not agreed with the club. Of course I accept the measures taken by the sporting management.'
