James injury leaves Capello with goalkeeping headache

Fabio Capello has been left with a goalkeeping headache ahead of England's World Cup qualifiers next month with the news that David James is set to undergo surgery for a persistent shoulder injury later this week.

The Italian is already without Manchester United reserve keeper Ben Foster for the games against Kazakhstan and Andorra which means that West Ham's Robert Green could be inline to wear the No.1 jersey.

James' absence from the squad could also open the door for West Brom's Scott Carson, Wigan's Chris Kirkland or Blackburn's Paul Robinson, but with Joe Hart losing his place at Manchester City to January signing Shay Given the England goalkeeping cupboard is starting to look particularly bare.
