Irish duo vie to lead the Lions

The two stars of Ireland's Six Nations Grand Slam triumph are are up against each other for the captaincy of the British and Irish Lions for their tour of South Africa, reports the BBC Both Paul O'Connell and Brian O'Driscoll are in the running for the captaincy, and Scotland legend Gavin Hastings has tipped O'Driscoll to lead the Lions out.

'Undoubtedly it's going to be between Brian and Paul, but Brian has to be the favourite. Paul O'Connell is a wonderful leader of the team as well, but Brian has just lifted Ireland's first Grand Slam in 61 years.

'In this day and age of rugby there are normally four or five leaders on the field and that will continue with the Lions, but I just think Brian O'Driscoll has played so well this year it would almost be a fitting tribute to the way he has played were he to be named Lions skipper.'
