Hughes set to spend £40m in January

Mark Hughes looks set to splash some cash in January in an attempt to strengthen the Manchester City squad and turn the club's failing season around. The City manager is said to have £40m to spend on new players during the transfer window.

The Daily Moan reports that City are set to table bids for Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz, West Ham's Craig Bellamy as well as left back Wayne Bridge and Spain midfielder Marcos Senna.

City lost 2-1 on Sunday to bottom club West Brom dropping into the relegation zone after a run of bad results. Despite being the richest club in the Premier League, City have failed to deliver on their early promise this season and Hughes knows that time is running out.
