Hughes make £15m for Santa Cruz

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is set to make a £15m bid for Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz. Tottenham and Arsenal have also been linked to the Paraguayan international who scored 19 goals in his first season in the Premier League.

Hughes is looking to sign Santa Cruz for the second time to ease Manchester City's woes up front due to injury and international call-ups. Zimbabwe striker Benjani is out injured with a torn thigh muscle, while £18m record signing Jo has been called up by Brazil for the Beijing Olympics.

That leaves the former Blackburn boss with just the out of favour Italian duo Rolando Bianchi and Bernardo Corradi, Darius Vassell as well as the teenagers Ched Evans and Daniel Sturridge. If City's bid for Santa Cruz fails they are reported to be ready to focus their attention on Real Zaragoza’s Argentinian striker Diego Milito.
