Hiddink gets off to winning start with Chelsea
Guus Hiddink got off to a winning start as Chelsea manager thanks to a Nicolas Anelka goal as the Blues earned a hard fought away win over Aston Villa. The victory sees Chelsea leapfrog Villa into third place and cement their chances of a Champions League place next season.
Chelsea showed a cohesion which has been lacking in recent weeks with Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack and Jon Obi Mikel controlling midfield while Anelka and Didier Drogba formed an effective partnership upfront.
But it wasn't all one way traffic for the Blues with Ashley Young hammering a 20-yard free-kick off the crossbar midway through the first half. Martin O'Neill's side dominated large portions of the second half but were unable to make the breakthrough.
