Heskey makes £3.5m Aston Villa switch

Aston Villa have signed England striker Emile Heskey for £3.5m from Wigan as they look to cement their challenge for a top four finish. Heskey will join up again with Villa manager Martin O'Neill after the two worked together at Leicester almost ten years ago.

The former Liverpool striker, whose recent form has seen earned him a recall to the England squad, cited the chance to work again with O'Neill as one of the deciding factors behind his decision to make the switch: "The prospect of working with Martin O'Neill again was one of the biggest factors for me. I know what he's about and I know I will be able to work well with him."

Liverpool were also reported to be interested in resigning the 29-year-old, but Heskey seems happy to be joining Villa as they look to qualify for next year's Champions League: "Aston Villa is a big club and it's been taking strides to get back to where it should be. I hope to be part of that."
