Henson in trouble over air incident

Celebrity rugby star Gavin Henson has been suspended after an incident on a domestic flight. Cardiff Blues were flying back from Glasgow after losing 31-3 to Glasgow Warriors.

The club is instigating an investigation into the incident, and issued a statement on the club website: "Cardiff Blues can confirm that Gavin Henson has been suspended with immediate effect following an incident on the flight back from Scotland after their match against Glasgow Warriors last night. The Cardiff Blues management team will meet to discuss the matter further."

The airline Flybe is also examining what exactly happened on flight BE3431, although it wasn’t clear whether they would be taking any action against the player or the club.

It’s the latest incident in a complicated career for the Welsh star. He signed for Cardiff after spells at Saracens, Toulon and Ospreys, but most of his attention seems to have been concentrated on reality TV shows rather than rugby.

Henson, the former partner of singer Charlotte Church, has appeared in 71 Degrees North, Strictly Come Dancing and The Bachelor as he attempts to launch himself as a light entertainment personality. Rumours suggest he is lined up to appear in a film called Lord Owen’s Lady, alongside Anthony Hopkins.

The distractions have provoked criticism from within rugby. Many observers feel he should be concentrating on his sport at a time when the Welsh team is showing great potential. After the airline incident, the rugby press speculation is already speculating whether the end of Henson’s rugby career could be imminent.
