Hamilton wins British Grand Prix at Silverstone
Lewis Hamilton produced a master class in wet-weather driving yesterday to win the British Grand Prix yesterday on a rain-soaked Silverstone track. The 23-year-old completely dominated the race, lapping all but two of his opponents and winning by a staggering margin of 68 seconds.
Nick Heidfeld was second in the BMW Sauber with Honda’s Rubens Barrichello in third place. Last year’s winner Kimi Raikkonen finished fourth on a disastrous day for Ferrari. Felipe Massa struggled to come to terms with the conditions and finished last.
The win puts Hamilton level on 48 points with both Massa and Raikkonen in the driver’s championship. Silverstone was Hamilton’s seventh win in 26 Grand Prix starts and gave the drenched home fans something to cheer about. The victory will also have gone a long way to answer the recent criticism levelled at the 23-year-old driver.
