Gerrard fears for England starting place
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he is no longer an automatic choice for England manager Fabio Capello due to his inconsistent form at international level.
The 28-year-old midfielder is expected to start on the left side of midfield tomorrow night against Belarus, but knows that he is no longer guaranteed to walk into the England first XI.
'The next challenge for me is to stay in this starting XI and produce as consistently for England as I do for Liverpool,' Gerrard told reporters. 'I feel under more pressure now. Everyone is under pressure here. The manager has shown he is prepared to make changes.'
The majority of football pundits believe that Gerrard and Lampard can't play in the same team and the Liverpool captain acknowledges that Capello may go with Lampard: 'If the manager decides to go with Frank and not with me, I will work hard to get back into the team.'
