Gerrard charged with assault following brawl
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was charged with assault yesterday following an incident in the early hours of Sunday morning. But the league leaders have given their full backing to the England midfielder.
If found guilty of assault and affray Gerrard could face a sentence of up to five years in prison after being arrested along with two other men outside the Lounge Inn in Southport. The bar's DJ is alleged to have been assaulted and required hospital treatment for facial injuries.
The incident could also put the Liverpool captain's England future in doubt with Fabio Capello making it clear that he expects his players to provide a good example both on and off the pitch.
