Germany beat Turkey to book place in Euro 2008 final

Germany beat Turkey 3-2 in the first semi-final of Euro 2008 last night. The game was a great advertisement for the sport, full of exciting attacking football with both teams determined to win the game in normal time.

Turkey dominated the first half and opened the scoring through Ugur Boral after Colin Kazim-Richards had hit the crossbar for the second time in the space of ten minutes. Fatih Terim's side attacked relentlessly against a German team that seemed to think it had already booked a place in Sunday's final.

The lead, however, lasted all of four minutes before Lukas Podolski crossed from the left for Bastian Schweinsteiger, who produced a sublime finish. Klose looked to have won the day for Germany when he scored a simple header late in the second half after veteran keeper Rustu Recber had flapped at a routine cross.

But one thing Euro 2008 has illustrated is that you cannot write off Turkey. Sabri beat Lahm on the right wing and crossed for Semih who levelled the tie. The game looked to be heading for extra-time when Lahm, who had looked weak in defense, scored a dramatic injury time winner to send Germany into the final.
