German ace undergoes Haaspital tests

Remember a couple of seasons ago when the Tottenham squad was stricken with a mystery stomach illness on the eve of a crucial end-of-season game against West Ham? A lasagne was singled out as the source – poisoning was suspected but never proved. Reports of a temporary hotel kitchen porter leaving the scene giggling (wearing a claret and blue scarf and singing I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles) were never confirmed.

Now German tennis star Tommy Haas claims to have been poisoned in Moscow during a September Davis Cup match, following a tip-off from a Russian team manager about hotel food. “Of the eight hours I should have been sleeping, I spent six on the toilet,” said Haas. We’ve had hotel food like that too…
