Gattuso apologises for headbutt

Gennaro Gattuso has apologised for his attack on Joe Jordan in the aftermath of Tottenham’s 1-0 win against AC Milan in the San Siro last night, saying that he ‘lost control’.

Gattuso head-butted the Spurs first team coach at the end of the match, which had already seen some reckless tackling; Vedran Corluka was stretchered off after a high, dangerous tackle from former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini. Uefa have since confirmed that they will be taking disciplinary action against the Italian, who has admitted he was in the wrong.

‘I lost control,’ said Gattuso, who had earlier pushed Jordan in the face. ‘There is no excuse for what I did. I take my responsibilities for that.

‘I was nervous. We were both speaking Scottish, something that I learned when I played in his home city of Glasgow, but I can't tell you what we said. I didn't want to argue with players and I did it with him, but I was wrong to do what I have done. I will have to await what they decide.’
