Fulham earn 1-1 draw with CSKA Sofia

Fulham earned a creditable 1-1 draw in their opening Europa League clash with CSKA Sofia at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Bulgaria.

The Premier League side went behind on 63 minutes when the aptly named Brazilian Michel Platini put the home in front. However, Diomansy Kamara was on hand just a couple of minutes later to put Fulham back on level terms after Sofia were caught out on the break.

The result was even more remarkable considering that Roy Hodgson chose to field a weakened side with just two of the players who started Sunday's 2-1 win over Everton taking to the field. But the decision to field ostensibly a reserve team calls into question why Premier League teams bust a gut to try and qualify for Europe if they aren't going to take the competition seriously.
