Fulham 3 Liverpool 1

Liverpool crashed to a 3-1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage just a week after the Reds beat Manchester United sparking reviving talk of their title chances.

To add insult to injury for under fire Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, defenders Philipp Degen and Jamie Carragher picked up straight red cards in the space of two minutes.

Bobby Zamora atoned for his miss against Manchester City last week when he opened the scoring on 24 minutes when he got on the end of a low cross from the left by Damien Duff.

The Reds got back on level terms just three minutes before the break when Fernando Torres latched onto a loose header to smash a volley past Mark Schwarzer in the Fulham goal.

Benitez decided to take Torres off on 60 minutes with the midweek Champions League clash with Lyon in mind but Liverpool's challenge wilted from that point on.

Half time substitute Erik Nevland put Fulham ahead 20 minutes before the end when he produced a cheeky back-heeled finish from a Zoltan Gera knockdown.

Clint Dempsey sealed the win with the Cottagers' third goal after Liverpool had been reduced to nine men. The result once again heaps the pressure on Benitez with the Lyon game now crucial to Liverpool's season.
