France broke Welsh hearts on Friday night with a 21-16 win at Stade de France in a pulsating 6 Nations match. At 13-3 it looked as if Wales were going to rack up their ninth successive victory in the Championship but France produced a vintage display to deservedly win the match.
Lee Byrne again showed the form which should see him earn a place on the Lions test team during the summer when he ripped through the French cover to score a beautiful try just before the break. The performance of the Welsh fullback, however, was overshadowed by 20-year-old débutante Matthieu Bastareaud at centre.
Thierry Dusautoir and wing Cedric Heymans dotted down for Les Bleus while the inexperienced Morgan Parra held his nerve to slot key penalties to secure a win which will take some of the heat off under fire boss Marc Lievremont.
