Four classic European Championship matches
While there are only two days to go until the start of Euro 2008 it is difficult to wait even that long to see some classic European Championship action. So here are the highlights of four classic matches.
First up is Holland's 2-0 win over the USSR in the final of Euro 88. The USSR team featured Rats, Belanov, Litovchenko and Dasayev while Holland had van Basten, Gullit and Rijkaard. Van Basten's goal has to be one of the best volleys in the history of the game.
Next up are two games from Euro 2000. Spain needed to win against Yugoslavia to progress to the knockout stages. With Yugoslavia 2-0 up it was looking like curtains for the Spanish until Alfonso had the game of his life.
Italy thought they had won the competition when Delvecchio put them ahead in the final but Wiltord equalised in injury time before Trezequet scored a golden goal in extra-time to snatch victory for the French.
Last up is England's last appearance in the European Championships: the ill-fated quarter-final against Portugal in Euro 2004. This game had it all, disallowed goals, extra-time equalisers and the drama of the penalty shoot out. Classic game, shame about the final result.
