Mr David Beckham may be everyone’s sporting hero, but one thing he certainly isn’t saving is the Earth. According to reports by Fox Sports, with all of Beckham’s travelling, he makes up to 163 tonnes of carbon a year. So what does that mean?
It means our David has a very large carbon footprint indeed, as the average person produces a comparatively tiny 9.4tonnes. In 2007 Mr Beckham is said to have travelled the equivalent to a trip to the moon. And he owns 15 cars, one of which is a gas-guzzling Hummer.
Ok, so Beckham was recently pictured in Sierra Leone doing charity work. More than most of us do, we suppose. But we know many of his thousands of air miles were simply for self-promotion.
So Dave, for the sake of the planet, maybe you should try to reduce your carbon footprint and use your legendary feet for something else other than kicking a ball…
