Football feastings

Last night saw an absolute festival of football, with four Premier League games, one extremely entertaining FA Cup quarter final, four championship games and, as a little bonus, a full programme of game in Italy’s Serie A (and Serie B, but you don’t care about that). The big story of the evening came from White Hart Lane, where Tottenham Hotspur beat Fulham 3-1 in a thrilling FA Cup tie. Bobby Zamora gave Fulham a handy first half lead, before Spurs turned it around after the break with goals from David Bentley, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Eidur Gudjohnsen. They will now meet Portsmouth (who were hammered 5-0 by Chelsea last night) in the semi-finals.

Elsewhere Blackburn beat Birmingham City 2-1, while it was ‘after you’ in the Champions League race, with both Manchester City and Aston Villa dropping points at home, with City losing 2-0 to Everton and Aston Villa drawing 1-1 against Sunderland. There was even an enjoyable spat between David Moyes and Roberto Mancini, who were both sent off. Good fun indeed.

In Italy Inter extanded their lead at the top to four points, after the beat rock bottom Liverno 3-0 and Milan lost 1-0 at Parma. Roma meanwhile kept up the pressure on the leaders, with a smart 2-0 win at Bologna. Roma and Inter will now face off againt each other on Saturday evening at the Stadio Olimpico, in what pundits are calling a ding-donger of a clash. It’s all happening.
