The Rugby Football Union has confirmed that England will bid to host the 2015 World Cup, after it received government backing for the bid.

A five man delegation including Lawrence Dallaglio, Will Greenwood and Secretary of State Andy Burnham will announce the bid to the International Rugby Board Council on 13 May, and will be up against Japan, South Africa and Italy.

We believe it is time that we brought the tournament back to England,' said RFU chief executive Francis Baron. 'And are confident we would be able to provide the best platform to profile the sport on the world stage and enable us to make a lasting commitment to grassroots rugby.'
