Flannery suspended for the rest of Six Nations

Ireland hooker Jerry Flannery will miss the rest of the Six Nations Championship after being given a six week suspension for kicking French winger Alexis Palisson.

The Munster player pleaded guilty to the charge and admitted that he was lucky to escape a red card during France's 33-10 demolition of Ireland last Saturday.

Palisson was forced off the field injured after Flannery kicked him in the leg as the pair both attempted to gather a loose ball. The disciplinary panel ruled that the Irish player's challenge was reckless rather than malicious.

Flannery's suspension means that Ulster's Rory Best should start against England on Saturday week having overcome a neck injury.
