Final countdown

Andrew Murray has reached to the final of the Australian Open after coming from behind to beat David Ferrer in an extremely tense semi-final which was strewn with errors.

Murray was one set down and playing extremely poorly, looking like he could go two sets down, but eventually recovered his form in the second set tie-breaker. He romped home with the third set 6-1, but Ferrer kept fighting, and took Murray to another tie-break in the fourth set, which the Scot won to take the match 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-1 7-6 (7-2).

However, should Murray want to win his first major title, he will have to play a hell of a lot better than he did today, as apart from the third set he kept giving opportunities to the Spaniard to get back into the game. His volleys in particular had a dreadful habit of flopping into the net, something Novak Djokovic will have loved seeing.

As it stands the Serb has only dropped one set in the entire tournament, and should in reality be going into the final as favourite. However British bookies will be offering very short odds on Murray. But if he wants to win his first major he’ll have to do more than rely on the positive thoughts of the British public, and cut out those sloppy errors.
