Figo rejects QPR transfer rumours

Luis Figo has dismissed rumours that he's set to join Queens Park Rangers. The 35-year-old Inter Milan winger was reportedly in talks with QPR owner Flavio Briatore over a move to Loftus Road.

For anyone who's been on the moon for the last six months QPR are now the richest club in England thanks to the triumvirate of F1 tycoons Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore as well as Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. Their combined wealth adds up to the paltry sum of £22 Billion. So Figo, what first attracted you to the billionaire Flavio Briatore?

But showing that it's not all about money the former Barcelona and Real Madrid player has dismissed the gossip: "It is a surprise for me, so I don't know what to say about it. It's nothing real at the moment, I don't know what to say, it's not true."

Instead it looks like Figo could resurrect his failed move to Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad where he will literally play for peanuts. Not really, they had offered him a one year deal worth only 4.5 million euros. So it looks like a year of non alcoholic Pina Coladas in the sun beckons for the man that Barcelona fans, never ones to bear a grudge, playfully call 'Pesetero' or 'money whore'.

It was hard to imagine Figo, whose name happens to mean 'attractive man' or 'cool' in Italian, lining up for QPR away to Preston on a rainy night in Lancashire, with Callum Davidson ready to give him a warm welcome to Deepdale. But one can always dream.
