Ferdinand to miss Andorra match through injury
Rio Ferdinand is set to miss England's World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Wednesday after failing to recover fully from the calf injury which threatened his participation in the Champions League final.
The Manchester United defender was expected to join up with the England squad this afternoon, but Fabio Capello has decided to let the centre-back recover from injury in time for the start of next season.
The Italian has decided not to risk Ferdinand against the Group 6 whipping boys Andorra and no other player has been called up to the squad.
With Gareth Barry set to miss the game through suspension, Capello will have just 21 players to choose from, but England should have more than enough to protect their 100 per cent record in qualifying and put one foot in South Africa for next year's World Cup.
