Ferdinand set to return against Porto

Rio Ferdinand looks set to overcome the groin injury which has kept him out of Manchester United's last three games to start tonight's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Porto.

The England centre-back picked up the injury during the World Cup qualifier with Ukraine at the start of April. But Ferdinand has been taking part in training since Friday and travelled to Portugal with the first team squad yesterday.

Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that Rio will be take part in the crunch tie: "We think Rio is fit," said Ferguson. "He trained on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and he will start tomorrow."

United have been haemorrhaging goals in the last five games so the return of Ferdinand to partner Vidic at the back will be a sight for sore eyes for the club's fans.
