Fabregas tells Wenger he wants to rejoin Barcelona

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas is reported to have told the club’s manager Arsene Wenger that he wants to rejoin Barcelona this summer.

The 23-year-old, who is currently in Spain undergoing treatment for a knee injury ahead of next month’s World Cup in South Africa, is said to have informed Wenger of his desire to return to the club he left back in 2003.

The claim would appear to be backed up in an interview with Barcelona’s vice-president Rafael Yuste on Catalan radio station Ona FM. Yuste commented that deals for Fabregas and Valencia’s David Villa were currently being negotiated.

‘Negotiations are progressing well, especially in the case of Villa’, Yuste said. ‘The situation with Cesc is different because even if you have the will of the player it is very important to talk to his club and, if you can, find an agreement. But what makes it easier is that both players want to come to Barça.’

Fabregas, who joined Barcelona as a ten-year-old and played in the same youth team as Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique, has always made it clear that he hoped to return to the club at some point in his career.

However, in an interview given last week it appeared that the Spain international remain with the Gunners for the foreseeable future: ‘I am happy at Arsenal and I am not in a rush to leave. Before I go to the World Cup I want my future sorted out because it benefits nobody if I go into the tournament with something else on my mind.’

This year’s ‘Ronaldo to Madrid’ has arrived.
