FA pays premium to cover astroturf injuries
Not that England are nervy about playing on Russian astroturf or anything, but the FA has increased insurance cover for top players in the event of any injuries sustained in the crunch Euro 2008 game in Moscow on Wednesday night.
Cover for eligible injured players will rise to £100,000 a week for lay-offs of up to 100 weeks caused by the much-doubted Russian pitch. Now you might think that sounds like a lot, but it’s only for the players earning more than £100,000 a week… and it does take into account national insurance contributions. So that’s alright then.
Rumours that the premiums will be paid on plastic could not be confirmed.
