FA denies rift between Capello and clubs
The FA has dismissed reports of a rift between Fabio Capello and a number of Premier League managers over withdrawals from the England squad for tomorrow's friendly with Germany.
England will be without several senior for the prestigious friendly with Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard both pulling out of the squad yesterday. Capello has come under fire from Liverpool after insisting that Gerrard report to the England camp to have his injury assessed by physio Gary Lewin.
The Gerrard incident is bound to have strained relations between Capello and Benitez but the Italian appears determined to assert his authority as England boss. But tomorrow's game will now give Don Fabio the chance to have a look at some other players with Darren Bent and Michael Carrick both hoping to cement their places in the Italian's future plans.
