FA attempts to salvage the Respect campaign
The FA is frantically trying to salvage the Respect campaign, an initiative launched earlier this year to promote a change in attitudes towards footballing officials.
The campaign had hoped to see the end of managers berating referees and linesmen on the sidelines and in the press. But already this season Sir Alex Ferguson has been charged after arguing with referee Mike Dean while Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear referred to Martin Atkinson 'a Mickey Mouse referee' after last weekend's game.
Jonathan Hall, the director of the Respect campaign, has voiced his disappointment with the initiative: "It has been disappointing to witness various incidents of managers publicly criticising referees." The FA is set to meet with the League Managers' Association to discuss the campaign.
