Everton reject Lescott transfer request

Everton have turned down a formal transfer request from England defender Joleon Lescott who is wanted by Manchester City.

The Liverpool club have already rejected two substantial offers from the Premier League big spenders as Mark Hughes looks to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the coming season.

However, Everton manager David Moyes has again underlined that Lescott is not for sale: 'I have always said that we are not selling any players and that hasn't changed.'

The Daily Mail claimed earlier today that City would sign the former Wolves defender before the weekend. But a statement on the Everton website this afternoon confirmed that the club had rejected Lescott's transfer request.

'Everton have turned down a formal transfer request from Joleon Lescott,' the statement read. 'The defender, currently on international duty with England, has been the subject of two bids from Manchester City in recent weeks. The player has subsequently submitted a written request to leave the club which manager David Moyes immediately rejected.'

Lescott joined Everton three years ago and still has another two years left on his current contract.
