Everton progressed to the FA Cup quarter-finals with a convincing 3-1 win over high-flying Aston Villa at Goodison Park. The result sees the Toffees reach the last eight of the Cup for the first time in seven years.
The game exploded after three minutes when 17-year-old Jack Rodwell scored his first senior goal for Everton. But Villa hit back straight away: Gabriel Agbonlahor was hacked down in the box by Tony Hibbert and James Milner made no mistake with the resulting spot kick.
Everton, however, were out to avenge the 3-2 loss to the Villains earlier this season and were back in front on 24 minutes when Mikel Arteta converted from 12-yards out after Victor Anichebe had been felled by Steve Sidwell. Tim Cahill made sure of the win 10-minutes from the end getting on the end of an Anichebe cross to fire home from 10-yards.
