Everton 3 Manchester United 1

Everton beat Manchester United 3-1 this afternoon at Goodison Park despite the absence of Marouane Fellaini and Tim Cahill through injury.

After their 3-2 win over Milan in the Champions League midweek United were expected to pick up three points against The Toffees.

Sir Alex Ferguson decided to pair Dimitar Berbatov alongside Wayne Rooney up front, however, the two strikers once again failed to form an effective partnership.

Berbatov did put United ahead on 16 minutes when he got on the end of an Antonio Valencia cross but the defensive frailties which hampered the Red Devils against Milan once again came to the fore.

Russian winger Diniyar Bilyaletdinov got Everton back on level terms just three minutes later when he got on the end of a Louis Saha knockdown before unleashing a brilliant left-foot strike from outside the area into the bottom right-hand corner.

Ryan Gosling came off the bench to give The Toffees the lead firing home a pinpoint cross from Steven Pienaar before Jack Rodwell made sure of the points with a brilliant solo run and finish past Edwin van der Saar.
