Everton 2 BATE Borisov 1

Everton fought back from a goal down to secure an important 2-1 away win over BATE Borisov in the Europa League. Tim Cahill was the hero on the night scoring the winner on 77 minutes after beating the home side's offside trap before lifting the ball over the keeper.

BATE had taken the lead after 16 minutes when Dmitri Likhtarovich gathered a loose ball 30 yards out and hit an unstoppable shot past Tim Howard in the Everton goal. The Premier League side got back on level terms in the 68th minute when Marouane Fellaini latched onto a poor BATE clearance from a Leighton Baines free-kick to score.

Cahill's late goal was the product of a rapid counterattack which left the home side stunned. With Everton travelling to Minsk without a number of first team regulars David Moyes will have been delighted with the result.
