England rescue draw in first Ashes Test
England rescued a draw in the first Ashes Test in dramatic fashion this afternoon in Cardiff thanks to the heroics of Paul Collingwood. The Durham all-rounder steadied the ship after the loss of three early wickets this morning with 74 off 245 deliveries.
Australia's bowlers had claimed the wickets of Graeme Swann, Stuart Broad and Andrew Flintoff and would have secured victory but for Collingwood's epic display which lasted over five hours and rescued his team from defeat.
The all-rounder was eventually caught out by Michael Hussey after mishitting a delivery from Peter Siddle. However, thankfully for England both Monty Panesar and James Anderson were able to continue where Collingwood had left off with the tourists failing to pick up the three wickets that they needed to secure victory.
