England games won't be shown on terrestrial TV
After losing Stevie G and Owen Hargreaves through injury and then falling in the Fifa rankings there's more bad news this morning for England fans. It looks as if the not even the highlights of the first two competitive games of Fabio Capello's reign will be shown on terrestrial television.
Setanta has bought the exclusive rights for England's away games against Andorra and Croatia, and the pay for view company has usually sold on a highlights package to either the BBC or ITV. But the Guardian reports that BBC have had an offer for a highlights package rejected, while ITV believe Setanta's asking price is too high.
Unfortunately the FA has no say over the rights to away games, meaning that a large number of people won't get to see if Capello can get England off to a winning start on the road to South Africa. Looking on the bright side, at least there will be no need to invent an excuse to head down the pub on Saturday and Wednesday.
