England beat Belarus 3-1 in Minsk thanks to a brace from Wayne Rooney and a Steven Gerrard cracker. The Liverpool skipper silenced the doubters with one of his trademark long range efforts to open the scoring in a scrappy game.
But Belarus equalised in the 28th minute through Pavel Sitko. The England performance was well below the high of last month's win in Zagreb with Theo Walcott, the hero against Croatia, struggling to impose himself on the game.
Thankfully Rooney and Heskey have formed a really good partnership up front. The Wigan man laid Rooney's first goal on a plate after a powerful run into the box while Gerrard was instrumental in the second. Capello's England don't always win pretty, but the most important thing is that they win.
