England 3 – 1 Egypt

It was another time wasting England friendly at Wembley last night and this time the walk over opposition were Egypt. Egypt, however, are officially the best team in Africa having won the African Cup Of Nations for the last three years. For the first 30 minutes, therefore Egypt dominated the match bagging a slick goal in the 23rd minute thanks to a Zindan strike after Mattie Upson slipped on the cut up turf.

It wasn’t until the 2nd half that Capello decided to shake up the match by bringing on Peter Crouch. It almost immediately proved to be the right move: from then on England took control. Firstly, with a Crouch side foot in the 56th minute, then a Shaun Wright-Phillips (also a sub) edge of the box strike and Crouch again with another side foot on the 80th minute.

The build up to the match was all about (yawn) John Terry, and whether he’d be booed or not by the England fans, but thanks to the lanky footballing skills of Peter Crouch Terry was silenced throughout.
